Cross County has a Sheriffs Department and Police Department's in Wynne, Parkin, and Cherry Valley. The Cross County Sheriff's Department includes a staff of 18 road deputies with 11 of those fulltime. The Department also includes two officers in their Criminal Investigation Division, a patrol captain, a chief deputy, and Cross County Sheriff J.R. Smith.

“Last year we logged over 160 cases ranging from some minor offenses to major cases,” says Smith, “We have an open door policy here and citizens are welcome any time. We have a good working relationship with the court system..prosecutors, judges and attorneys in Cross County.”

The Wynne Police Department has 17 officers including two Criminal Investigators. Police Chief Jeff Sanders says the department has three cars in service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“I've got a pretty good department,” says Sanders, “If something comes in, we have a good response time. We are a 24-hour department. Our office closes at 5pm weekdays, but our phone number rolls over to the county's dispatch and our officers are notified.”

The Arkansas State Police has three officers dedicated to Cross County and Wynne. The department's Troop D headquarters are in Forrest City, 12 miles away. The Troop's Commander, Jackie Clark, is a Cross County native and resident.

Cross County has fire departments in Wynne, Parkin, Vanndale, Cherry Valley, Hickory Ridge, and Fair Oaks. The Parkin, Vanndale, Cherry Valley, Hickory Ridge and Fair Oaks Fire Department's are volunteer units.

The Wynne Fire Department has seven full-time employees and 17 paid volunteers. “We run all rescues, all matter how minor,” says Wynne Fire Chief Lynn Blake, “If you detect a smell in your house, we'll come running.”

The Wynne Fire Department is a Class 4 fire department, which is one of the highest ratings possible. The department has four pumper trucks and one ladder truck.
